Lookout Labs continues to do their best to keep up with the aggressive malware and adware creators in the Android ecosystem. Hot off the heels of releasing the well-received beta Push Ad Detector a few weeks ago, that identified if any of the six known push ad networks were at play in any of your apps, now they’ve extending it and re-releasing it as Ad Network Detector.

As a follow up to yesterday’s warning from Symantec about the threat of Android.Counterclank , Lookout Mobile Security came out with a more nuanced perspective on the Apperhand SDK central to the issue. Unlike Symantec, they don’t go as far as to consider it malware, since it is not specifically engaging in malicious behaviour or stealing personal information, but they do consider it an aggressive form of ad network that you should think twice about permitting on your device. They actually said that it is actually less aggressive than a similar one distributed in June 2011 that collected more private data.

January’s almost over and this is the first Android Apps Alert of 2012. Madness, I know, but things kept moving even while we were away dealing with CES and other things. App makers must have had their fingers hovering over the publish button because there have been plenty of apps and games released recently, so here’s a tidy little round-up of a few that you may want to grab

Gameloft has thrown a lot promotions over the past year, but most of them have been for iOS or in the company’s own online store. One of the most prolific mobile game developers around will bring a sale that will see all of its paid games go on sale for just a buck. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the Logitech Revue , think again. It turns out that many new owners of the GTV box are experiencing problems on step seven (where you’re asked to accept their EULA) during the setup process. What’s even worst is there’s no word yet when a possible fix or workaround is rolling out.

As I’ve said before, Google like’s it’s Nexus line of phones to be the pacecar for the Android ecosystem. The Nexus One pushed forward processor speed, camera quality, and internal memory capacity, but one thing that didn’t make the move to many other handsets was the AMOLED screen. AMOLED screens provide better viewing angles, better battery life, better contrast and better brightness than LCD.
