Google I/O 2012 extended to 3 days, moved to June 27

Google I/O is Google’s biggest developer event, and has become the launchpad for some big announcements relevant to consumers each year. I/O has grown beyond what Google can contain in two-days, so the Mountain View-based company is adding an extra day to the 2012 edition. Monica Tran of the Google I/O team has announced that I/O 2012 will take place June 27-29, 2012.

Sprint announces Nexus S 4G with deep Google Voice integration

The Google Nexus S 4G is coming to Sprint. Samsung Mobile just announced that a version of the Nexus S, originally available through T-Mobile USA, is coming to Sprint with 4G WiMax speeds supported and “unprecedented controls and services enabled by Google Voice integration built into the Sprint Network.” The Nexus S 4G is mostly similar to the Nexus S that T-Mobile users have grown to love and hate.

Samsung Announces Flash Memory NFC Chip

Today, Samsung announced the development of a new lower-power NFC chip which features embedded flash memory. Eric Schmidt set the mobile industry buzzing about NFCs when he announced NFC support in Android 2.3, and showed off a little demonstration with his Nexus S at the recent Web 2.0 Summit. NFC chips are for short range (less than 4 inches) communication and data transmission, and have many uses from subway passes, security access to mobile payment systems.
